How To Attain The Seemingly Unattainable - Perfect Eyebrows

As we age, hair loss is an issue that affects women, and for some reason it’s kind of a taboo subject, but it absolutely shouldn’t be - so let’s talk about it for a moment. A large percentage of the male population generally suffer from hair loss at some stage in their lives - no real surprises there, but something you may not know is that almost 50% of women also experience a reasonable degree of hair loss by the time we reach 50 years old, and that hair loss, well it extends to lashes, and yes… eyebrows.

With brows being big business these days, women are investing considerable time, energy and money trying to tame, tint, shape, and control them. This isn’t surprising when you take a look at the polarizing brow movement on social media platforms such as Instagram and Youtube. The pressure for good brows is real, we get it, but what’s not necessary are the expensive, often painful lengths women go to in pursuit of getting their “brow game” right. Waxing, threading, plucking, microblading, laser, electrolysis, chemical dying - ever been there? Don’t worry, we have too. The good news? There is a way to get perfect brows without the effort, price tag, pain and harshness in the above techniques. The really good news? This technique we’re about to share works if you have thick, medium or thin sparse brows.

Breaking Down Fads & Opting for Timeless Perfect Brows

Perfect Brow Look, Eyebrow beauty tips

Let’s start with a little eyebrow background - brow makeup history 101. Brow trends have changed dramatically over time - in the 20’s the trend was pencil thin, rounded arch brows. In the 30’s Joan Crawford set the trend with thin, high arch brows. Moving into the 50’s, the brow trend moved towards a more natural shape which continued until the 80’s and 90’s where models like Brooke Shields and Cindy Crawford set the tone for big bold brows. In the early 2000’s, women reached for the tweezers again with overly plucked brows again becoming the “in” look. Nowadays, the trend has moved back toward embracing a more natural brow look (sigh of relief). Now, let’s take a look at some of the options for getting the brow look.

When it comes to makeup and brows, there are many options - pencils, creams, powders, and gels. Though through trial and error, comparison and contrast, pros and cons, we’ve nailed the most effective, simplest, and most instant way of attaining perfect eyebrows - gel.

Powders, Pencils, Gels, Oh My!

Brow Powder, Brow Makeup

When it comes to brow makeup, there are 4 basic types of product. What’s the best option? Well we’ve tried literally everything. Here’s what we’ve found.

Brow pencils offer the benefit of extreme precision when drawing on a new shape for your eyebrow, however, this often leads to a very unnatural, drawn-on look - not to mention the precision you seem to need in order to utilize a brow pencil - I mean we’re not all makeup artists!

Brow powder is a tricky method to work with to achieve perfect brows. Not only does it give a very unnatural, “powdery” look to your brows, but we find it tends to do it’s own thing throughout the day, and so while your 9am brows may have a nice shape to them, by the time it’s 5pm, you may have what resembles 2 smudged caterpillars above your eyes!

Brow cream is similar to a brow gel in formula, and is a good way to get a more natural, look for your brows - however, the biggest problem we find with creams is the amount of artistry that comes with it. Precision angle brushes are hard to use if you're not an experienced brow filler.

Brow gel is very versatile, gives great results, and is beyond easy to apply, making it our winner for getting perfect brows. Whether you have too much, or not enough, a brow gel is going to give you everything you need. The gel formula helps to tame and frame brows by coating each hair with the wand, giving you control of shape as well as thickness. Opting for a tinted gel formula is going to help with patchy, too light (and even too dark) eyebrows. What gels give over other methods is the fact that they work with the hair you already have to not give an unnatural, drawn on look. In terms of coloring - pencils, powders, and creams fill but do not actually color hairs entirely. A brow gel also is the simplest and most time effective way to do your brows. With one sweep, you instantly tame, tint, and control for perfect face framing brows!
